A Taiwan marine engineer has designed a prototype biomimetic undersea vehicle, a BAUV, that has the swimming capacities of both trevally and wrasses: it has a tail section that flexes as well as pectoral fins that scull. Thus it can swim fast and manoevre delicately, turning slowly etc. Two sonar systems guide it as it pursues a target. Such an automonous system may be the underwater film platform of the future.
