Phil: if any one did a study of the new organisms that turn up neaqr major ports it wld be apparent our biosecurity is ina bad shpe. marsden Point is a very good example: so many new organisms turn up inthe vicinity. Ships ned to follow special procdures. That casing on the side of the hull where they take in water ballast etc need flushing nozzles with scalding water. I bet if divers were to inspect a few hulls they wld find the goodies.

I once worked over a hull in dry dock with my camera. It was like a coral reef. Even small fish were amongst the encrusting life. A ship's hull is not much different to a wave lashed reef crest. Maybe legal action shd be considered by the mussel industry.
