Hi Wade,
The Uni Club was out at Cape Brett Hut over New Year a great place. We took a small compressor and did some shore diving around the rocks. At 30m we saw a large bullet-shaped fish swimming quickly through the Ecklonia and into a small cave. It was mottled like a puffer when we first saw it but it had turned a dull grey by the time we reached the cave. We took some photos Could this be a Hapuku? We saw a Spotted Black Groper on the same dive and apart from being slightly smaller (it wasnıt the same fish!) its behavior was totally different it stayed out in the open in one area (territory?) and just eyed us up. The next day the Spotted Black was in exactly the same place but the mystery fish had moved on. Cheers, Simon Freeman
