When Jan and I look across at Ngunguru Sandspit and Whakairiora Mountain from the north, it seems to us that to disfigure such a rare and pristine coastal treasure with a housing development would be akin to flinging excrement on the Mona Lisa.

Will it become another Omaha? Landco developers have proposed a settlement of 350 dwellings there in the midst of a rural district. The land is now in the hands of Todd Property Org. DOC have tried to do a land swap. Pristine and rare coastal wilderness like this should become some sort of public park. [For more details see www.ngag.org.nz]. I have prepared a vision statement for this published as a full page in the local press:"Wade's Dream." [digital file available per this site]
Jan and I have made a DVD of the Ngunguru sandspit/ Whakairiora mountain that presents its visual charms, ecology etc. We have explored the archaeology. We have extensively archived local flora and fauna on disc, both above and below water. I am preparing a book/video on the mangroves community by day and by night. So far I have written 100,000 words on the history and ecology of the area and made a DVD disc of images through time and space.
Is there somewhere a green knight to come to the rescue of this precious portion of our world? It could become a coastal complement to the incredible Poor Knights Marine Reserve adjacent
