I heard a fascinating radio interview last night [Jim Mora, Radio NZ] with a kiwi scientist/ diver researching whale sharks and mantas in Mozambique. He explained the reason it is such a good place to study mantas is because they suffer a lot from shark bite there and seek the services of cleanerfish to trim their wounds. They are very approachable while being cleaned. The whale sharks are really interactive with humans and very approachable too. But NEVER touch them. They think they are being attacked.
