Niue Whale Research Project 2010

OCEANSWATCH IS LOOKING FOR ENTHUSIASTIC YACHTIES TO PARTICIPATE IN A WHALE RESEARCH PROJECT IN NIUE!

Between August & September volunteers are needed to help undertake daily sighting surveys from land and sea.

Together with the South Pacific Whale Research Consortium (SPWRC), the Niue Government, and Oma Tafua (a local NGO), sighting surveys will be conducted during the late winter, south-bound migration of humpback whales.

Lying in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Niue is thought to be a possible area where humpback whales from the eastern and western pacific meet and mix. Also, as in many other South Pacific countries, there is a lack of knowledge of what other whale and dolphin species are present.

This is a great opportunity to see whale research in practice and learn more about cetacean conservation.
