Can someone familiar with the relevant law tell us whether ignorance of the fact of commission of the crime, as distinct from ignorance of the law, is a defence in this context? The doctrine or principle of mens rea has a long history in British jurisdictions, and I'm always loath to condone any erosion of it, but this important principle has been more or less over-ridden in a few laws ... is this one of those?
Let me point out that if DoC refuse to prosecute - or stalls so long before deciding that their notorious bias is again showing - there is such a thing as a private prosecution.
